Broker Platforms: How To Guide

7.View a Chart

Charts are at the heart of every trader’s toolkit. Trading platforms normally include access to charts for free.

Video Transcript:

In this tutorial, we’re going to show you how to view and configure your chart on the trading platform.

To view, a chart simply click on the chart icon to the right of the market name.

Now the default chart setting is candlestick as you can see here. Now, let’s run through the options that are available. If you prefer to view the chart in full-screen mode, you can do so by selecting the tear-off icon next to the cross in a top right-hand corner of the chart screen. This will open the chart in a new tab.

First, we can change the time interval in the chart by selecting from the timeframe drop-down menu. Here, you will see a number of options from ‘Tick Chart’ all the way through to ‘monthly’.  Let’s select the hourly chart. Once your preferred timeframe is selected, you can hit the plus or minus button to zoom in and out, of the chart.

You can use drawing tools by selecting the pencil icon and selecting your tool of choice from the top left-hand corner of the chart.  Here, you can add tramlines, notes etc. by simply selecting the relevant tool from the tools dropdown menu and clicking where you want it to go, that will place the line or note on there for you. To delete, simply right click on the appropriate drawing.

Next is the display option allowing you to change the chart type. Here, you can change between candlestick, bar and line charts, to name a few, as well as changing the background colour of the chart. For those using technical analysis tools, you have a large suite of the most actively used indicators and studies from the studies drop-down menu, as you can see here.

Finally, we have the views drop allowing you to save and choose between any number of your own customised charting templates with your preferred technical set-ups. Another great feature of the platform is the ability to place a trade, or order on the market whilst viewing the chart – which I explain in more detail in another tutorial. This feature can be made visible or hidden by clicking the trade option above the chart.

So that’s how we view and configure our charts, we look forward to seeing you in the next tutorial. Thank you.
